삼성 라이프 사이언스 펀드, 美치매혈액진단 업체에 1000만불 투자

삼성 라이프 사이언스 펀드가 미국 C2N Diagnostics에 1천만 달러를 투자한다.

해당 기업은 혈액 내 단백질 바이오마커 측정 및 분석 기술력을 보유하고 있다. 알츠하이머병 진단을 위한 혈액검사를 개발했으며, 관련 치료제의 임상시험과 함께 중추신경계 질환 임상시험에 참여 중이다.

이들의 알츠하이머병 혈액검사는 기존 방식인 아밀로이드 PET-CT 검사나 뇌척수액 검사보다 더 저렴한 것으로 알려졌다.

또 아밀로이드 베타 등 알츠하이머병과 관련된 단백질의 양을 정밀 측정할 수 있다는 점도 차별점이다. C2N는 자사 알츠하이머병 혈액검사 서비스를 연내 미국 식품의약국(FDA)에 승인 신청할 예정이다.

김재우 삼성물산 라이프 사이언스 사업 담당 부사장은 “C2N는 의약품 등의 연구개발 지원·수탁 및 관련 서비스 분야 선도 기업”이라며 “삼성물산은 이번 펀드투자로 해당 분야 진입을 위한 교두보를 확보했다”라고 밝혔다.

조엘 브라운슈타인 C2N 대표도 “이번 투자로 기술 역량을 강화하고 우수 인재를 확보해 자사 서비스를 미국 전역과 해외에도 제공할 것”이라고 전했다.

한편, 삼성 라이프 사이언스 펀드는 삼성물산이 삼성바이오로직스, 삼성바이오에피스와 공동으로 2천400억원을 출자해 조성한 벤처 투자 펀드다. 삼성벤처투자가 운용 중이며, ▲아라리스바이오테크 ▲에임드바이오 ▲제너레이트 바이오메디슨 등에 투자한 바 있다.
