HD현대중공업, AI 기반 전투용 무인수상정 시대 연다

HD현대중공업이 우리 해군과 함께 미래 전장 게임체인저로 각광받는 전투용 무인수상정(USV) 개발을 본격화한다.

HD현대중공업은 해군의 차기 핵심사업이 될 ‘전투용 무인수상정 개념설계 사업’을 해군본부로부터 수주했다고 22일 밝혔다. 

HD현대중공업은 이지스 구축함 건조 역량을 바탕으로 차세대 함정 개발을 이끌게 됐다. 전투용 무인수상정은 유인함정을 대신해 최전방 해역에서 탐색과 근접 교전의 임무를 수행하는 함정으로, 해양 유무인 복합체계의 핵심축이 된다.

HD현대중공업은 이달 중 착수회의를 열고 오는 12월까지 약 8개월간 전투용 무인수상정에 적용되는 성능, 기술 등에 대한 요구사항 및 획득방안을 결정하는 전투용 무인수상정 개념설계 사업을 수행할 예정이다.

이번에 HD현대중공업은 다변화하는 미래 전장 환경을 고려한 임무 수행 솔루션을 개발하고, 유인함정 이상의 신뢰성과 경제성을 극대화한 전투용 무인수상정을 설계할 예정이다. HD현대중공업은 전투용 무인수상정을 필두로 유무인복합체계 개발에 선도적인 역할을 하겠다는 방침이다.

HD현대중공업 주원호 특수선사업대표는 “해군의 차기 핵심사업이 될 전투용 무인수상정 개념설계를 수주하게 되어 매우 뜻깊게 생각한다”며, “HD현대중공업은 인공지능(AI) 기반의 무인화·자동화·전동화 기술을 접목, 해양 유무인복합전력의 선도함이 될 전투용 무인수상정 시대 청사진을 제시하겠다”고 말했다.

한편, HD현대중공업은 지난 4월 초 미국 AI 방산기업 안두릴 인더스트리와 무인수상정 개발 및 시장진출을 위한 양해각서(MOU)를 체결하는 등 해양방산 산업에 속도를 내고 있다.
