별점 1점 리뷰 수두룩…코스트코 커클랜드 기저귀에 무슨일이

최근 코스트코가 인기 상품인 커클랜드 시그니처 기저귀의 제조사를 교체하자, 일부 부모들 사이에서 불만의 목소리가 커지고 있다.

블룸버그통신은 25일(현지시간) 큐티스 기저귀 등을 제조하는 뉴욕 그레이트넥 소재 퍼스트 퀄리티가 최근까지 기저귀를 공급하던 킴벌리클라크를 대신해 새로운 제조사가 됐다고 보도했다. 코스트코는 제조 파트너에 대해 언급하지 않는다는 입장을 밝혔으며, 현재 미국 내 600개 이상의 매장에서 새로운 기저귀를 순차적으로 도입 중이다.

커클랜드 등 자체 브랜드(PB)는 소비자 충성도를 높이는 데 큰 역할을 하며, 일반적으로 수익성도 높다. 하지만 인기 제품이 변경될 경우, 그 반발도 만만치 않다. 목요일 기준으로 코스트코 웹사이트에는 해당 기저귀에 대해 수백 건의 별점 1점 리뷰가 등록돼 있다고 외신은 설명했다.

코스트코 건강·미용 부서의 루카스 스타누치 부매니저는 고객들로부터 웹사이트와 콜센터를 통해 새 기저귀가 얇다는 피드백을 받았다고 밝히며, 이 디자인은 의도된 것이라고 강조했다.

스타누치는 제조사들이 여성용 패드와 마찬가지로 흡수력은 유지하면서 두께는 줄인 제품을 만들고자 한다며, 코스트코도 이 흐름에 발맞춰 앞서 나가고 싶다고 덧붙였다.

또한 기업이 SNS 반응에 대처하는 것이 쉽지 않다면서, 실제로 새 기저귀가 매장에 출시되기도 전에 불만이 들어오기 시작했다고 말했다. 다수의 피드백은 아직 매장에서 판매 중인 이전 버전에 대한 것이었다고 설명했다.

외신에 따르면 코스트코는 기저귀 품질에 대한 검토 결과, 제조상 문제는 발견되지 않았고 공급업체를 변경할 계획도 없다고 밝혔다. 회사는 향후 몇 개월 내로 공급 전환을 완료할 예정이다.
