롤스로이스, 해군 차기 호위함에 엔진 납품

롤스로이스는 한국 해군의 신형 울산급 배치 IV 호위함에 MT30 함정용 가스터빈과 가변 피치 프로펠러, MTU 디젤 발전기 세트를 납품한다고 27일 밝혔다.

첫 두 척의 함정은 한화오션이 건조한다. 롤스로이스는 이미 대구급 호위함 8척과 충남급 호위함 6척 전량에 현대식 하이브리드 추진 시스템을 성공적으로 구축한 바 있다.

각 함정은 MT30 가스터빈 1기와 전기 추진 모터로 구동된다. MTU 12V4000 M43 디젤 엔진이 장착된 발전기 세트 4기가 전기 추진 모터에 전력을 공급한다.

해당 발전기 세트는 롤스로이스 파워시스템 사업부의 라이선스를 기반으로 한국의 파트너사인 STX엔진이 국내에서 조립했다.

이 발전기들은 함정이 순항 속도로 운항할 때 추진 에너지를 공급하며, 고속 항해 시에는 MT30 가스터빈이 사용된다.

MT30은 장기적인 신뢰성과 탁월한 긴 수명주기 성능, 뛰어난 운영 비용 효율성을 제공한다. 미 해군 프리덤급 연안전투함과 줌왈트급 구축함, 영국 해군 퀸 엘리자베스급 항공모함, 이탈리아 해군 다목적 상륙함 등에서 운용되고 있다.
