中제약바이오 견제 美생물보안법안, 재추진될 듯

중국 제약바이오기업과의 거래를 금지하는 미국 생물보안법안(Biosecure Act)이 재추진될 전망이다.

사이트라인에 따르면, 미국 상원 국토안보 및 정무위원회 소속 게리 피터스 민주당 의원은 생물보안 및 팬데믹 대비에 관한 행사에서 생물보안법안이 가까운 시일 내에 재도입될 가능성이 있다고 밝혔다.

미국 생물보안법안은 중국 정부와 연관된 현지 바이오기업의 미국과의 관계 단절을 목표다. 법안은 연말 결의안에 포함되지 않았다. 법안이 ‘우려 바이오기업’으로 지정한 중국 기업들은 ▲BGI ▲MGI ▲Complete Genomics ▲WuXi AppTec WuXi Biologics 등이다.

피터스 의원은 “새로 추진되는 법안은 해외 자문가는 물론, 타 기업들도 ‘우려 기업’ 리스트에 추가되도록 하는 절차가 포함될 예정”이라며 “법안의 재도입을 위해 노력하고 있다”라고 밝혔다.

특히 타깃이 된 중국 기업들이 새 이름으로 영업을 개시하는 것을 막는 조치도 포함된다는 점이 눈에 띈다. 피터스 의원은 트럼프 행정부와도 대화를 나누고 있다고 밝혀 법안의 목표가 행정 조치를 통해 달성될 수 있음을 시사했다.
