의사협회 "정은경 지명 환영"…정부와 협력관계 형성 위해 적극 나설 것

대한의사협회가 보건복지부 장관 내정자로 정은경 전 질병관리청장이 지명된 데 대해 환영의 뜻을 밝혔다.

대한의사협회는 ‘보건복지부 장관 인선 관련 입장문’을 통해 “최근 보건복지부 장관 인선이 늦어지면서 보건의료를 비롯한 여러 사회적 현안들이 누적돼 왔다”며 “이러한 상황에 정은경 전 질병관리청장이 보건복지부 장관으로 지명된 것은 국가적 위기 극복에 헌신해 온 인물이 중책을 맡게 되었다는 점에서 큰 의미가 있으며 대한의사협회는 이를 대통령의 강한 의지를 반영한 결정으로 받아들이고 진심으로 환영한다”고 밝혔다.

이어 “정은경 장관 내정자는 코로나19라는 유례없는 국가적 재난 상황에서 국민의 생명과 안전을 지키기 위해 최선을 다한 전문가로, 당시 불확실하고 혼란스러운 환경 속에서도 과학에 근거한 판단과 진정성 있는 소통으로 국민의 신뢰를 얻었고 위기 대응의 모범을 보여주었다”며 “내정자가 지닌 전문성과 합리적 태도 그리고 공공의료에 대한 깊은 이해는 현재의 의료위기를 극복하는 데 큰 도움이 될 것”이라고 강조했다.

또 “정 내정자는 지명 소감에서 진정성 있는 소통과 협력으로 의정 갈등을 해결하겠다고 밝혔다. 대한의사협회는 이 같은 의지에 깊이 공감하며 국민의 건강을 최우선에 두고 정부와의 신뢰 회복과 협력적 관계 형성을 위해 적극 나설 것”이라며 “새 정부의 인적 구성이 본격화되는 만큼 대한의사협회는 국회와 정부 부처와의 긴밀한 협의를 통해 국민의 생명과 건강을 지키는 중요한 과제들을 조속히 해결해 나가도록 최선을 다하겠다”라고 밝혔다.
