지난해 국내 의약품 생산 역대 최고 32조원…바이오의약품 첫 6조원대 기록

지난해 국내 의약품 생산 실적이 역대 최고인 32조원을 기록했다. 바이오의약품 생산실적도 처음으로 6조원을 넘어섰다.

식품의약품안전처(식약처)는 2024년 국내 의약품 생산실적이 2023년 대비 7.3% 증가하며, 관련 통계 집계(1998년부터) 이후 역대 최고치인 32조 8천629억원을 기록했다고 밝혔다.

최근 의약품 생산실적을 보면 2020년 24조 5천662억원, 2021년 25조 4천906억원, 2022년 28조 9천503억원, 2023년 30조 6천396억원으로 최근 10년간 지속적으로 증가세에 있다.

2024년 의약품 생산은 국내총생산(GDP) 대비 1.29%, 전체 제조업 분야 GDP 대비 4.80% 수준을 기록했다. 최근 5년간 연평균 성장률은 7.5%로 같은 기간 국내총생산(GDP) 성장률(5.5%) 보다 높게 나타났다.

국내 완제·원료의약품 생산실적의 비율은 완제의약품 28조 4천623억원으로 86.6%를 차지했으며, 전년 대비 5.9% 증가했다.

원료의약품 4조4천7억원으로 13.4%를 차지했는데, 2024년에는 성장세가 두드러져 전년(3조 7천689억원) 대비 16.8% 증가했다.

국내 완제의약품 중 전문·일반의약품 생산실적의 비율을 보면 전문의약품이 전년 대비 5.3% 증가한 24조 2천265억원을 기록하며 85.1%를 차지했다. 일반의약품 4조 2천357억원으로 14.9%를 차지했는데 이는 전년(3조 8천554억원) 대비 9.9% 증가한 수치다.

국내 의약품 시장규모(생산실적 + 수입실적 – 수출실적)는 31조 6천965억원으로 전년(31조 4천606억원) 대비 소폭(0.7%) 증가했다.

의약품 수출실적은 전년(9조 8천851억원) 대비 28.2% 증가하며 최근 5년간 최고치인 12조 6천749억원을 기록했고, 2024년 수입실적은 전년(10조 7천61억원) 대비 7.5% 증가한 11조 5천85억원으로 나타났다. 이에 따라 무역수지는 1조 1천664억원으로 3년만에 흑자 전환했다.

식약처는 2024년 국내 의약품등 시장의 주요 특징으로 ▲의약품 생산실적 역대 최고, 원료의약품 성장세 강화 ▲의약품 무역수지 3년 만에 흑자 전환 ▲1조원 이상 생산실적을 기록한 업체 강세, 수입실적 1위 업체 변동 ▲유전자재조합의약품 중심으로 바이오의약품 생산·수출실적 증가 ▲ 방역용품 제외한 시장규모 소폭 증가, 내용고형제 등 제조·품질관리기준(GMP)이 의무화된 업종 중심의 성장, 수출 대폭 증가 등을 꼽았다.
