대웅제약, 골 재생유도 단백질 ‘BMP-2’ 원료의약품 허가 획득

대웅제약이 골 재생을 촉진하는 단백질 ‘BMP-2’에 대해 식품의약품안전처로부터 원료의약품 허가를 획득했다.

이는 국내에서 처음으로 ‘BMP-2 단일 성분’에 대한 원료의약품 승인 획득한 것. 관련해 회사는 지난 2013년 대장균 생산기술로 BMP-2 단백질의 국산화 및 대량 생산에 성공했다.

해당 물질은 세계보건기구(WHO)로부터 기술력과 원천성을 인정받아 ‘네보테르민(Nebotermin)’ 이라는 국제 일반명을 획득했다. 이후 대웅제약의 생물의약품 제조소에서 의약품 수준으로 생산 및 관리돼 왔다.

BMP-2는 골 결손 부위에서 줄기세포를 골세포로 분화시키는 단백질이다. 새로운 골 생성을 유도하는 데 핵심 역할을 하는 것으로 알려졌다. 회사의 BMP-2는 대장균을 활용해 생산한 단백질이다. 동물세포 유래 단백질 대비 생산성이 높고 비용 경쟁력도 뛰어나다는 게 회사의 설명이다. 관련해 시지바이오의 ‘노보시스’는 BMP-2를 함유한 골대체재다.

박성수 대표는 “BMP-2의 원료의약품 허가는 기술력뿐 아니라 생산과 품질관리 체계 전반에 대한 신뢰를 입증한 것”이라며 “여러 지지체와 융복합을 통해 근골격계 의료 제품군을 확장하고, 세계 시장 진출에도 속도를 낼 수 있을 것”이라고 밝혔다.
