쎌바이오텍 듀오락, 유산균 듀얼코팅 기술 고도화 성공

‘듀오락’(DUOLAC)이 핵심기술인 ‘듀얼코팅’(Dual Coating) 기술 고도화에 성공하고, 해당 기술에 대해 한국·일본·중국·미국·유럽 등 5개국 특허 등록을 완료했다고 9일 밝혔다.

특히 이번 기술 고도화를 기반으로 유산균 생존율을 최대 91.6%까지 끌어올리는 데 성공했으며, 기존 비코팅 유산균 대비 무려 221배 높은 장내 생존율을 인체적용시험을 통해 입증하며 기술력을 보여줬다는 평가다.

쎌바이오텍이 세계 최초로 개발한 4세대 듀얼코팅 기술은 살아있는 유산균을 단백질과 다당류로 이중 코팅해 위산과 담즙산 등 인체 환경으로부터 유산균을 보호하고, 장까지 안전하게 전달하는 독자 기술이다. 인체 고유의 산도(pH) 차이를 이용해 위에서는 견고한 코팅이 유지되고, 장에서는 자연스럽게 코팅이 풀리며 유산균이 활성화되는 구조다.

이번 기술 고도화에서는 코팅에 사용되는 단백질을 더 작은 분자로 가수분해함으로써 유산균 생존력을 비약적으로 향상시켰더고 한다.

쎌바이오텍은 단백질 가수분해율에 따른 배양성 및 동결건조 실험을 통해 각 CBT 유산균에 최적화된 조건을 도출했다. 이후 코팅 유무에 따른 가속안정성, 내산성, 내담즙성 실험을 통해 기술의 유효성을 과학적으로 입증했다.

실험 결과, ▲소비기한 내 품질을 확인하는 ‘가속안정성’ 실험에서 85.2% ▲위산 환경에서의 ‘내산성’ 실험에서 90.7% ▲담즙산 환경에서의 ‘내담즙성’ 실험에서는 91.6%의 생존율을 기록하며 기술의 안정성과 효과를 모두 확보했다. 고도화된 기술은 한국(등록번호 KR 10-2009731)을 포함해 일본, 중국, 미국, 유럽 등 세계 5개국에서 특허를 획득하며 기술력을 입증받았다.

또, 쎌바이오텍이 삼육의료원과 공동으로 진행한 인체적용시험 결과, 듀얼코팅 유산균은 비코팅 유산균 대비 장내 생존율이 최대 221배 높은 것으로 나타났다. 성인 남녀 40명을 대상으로 무작위·이중맹검 방식으로 진행한 임상시험에서 모든 균주의 장내 생존율이 평균 100배 증가했으며, CBT-LR5 균주에서는 무려 221배의 생존율 증가를 확인했다.

쎌바이오텍 관계자는 “보장균수를 장까지 살아가는 유산균 수로 오해하는 경우가 많지만, 보장균수는 소비기한까지 제품에 살아 있는 균의 수를 의미할 뿐 장내 생존 여부와는 별개”라며 “유산균이 장까지 살아남기 위해선 어떤 코팅기술을 사용하느냐가 핵심이며, 쎌바이오텍은 세계 최초로 개발한 4세대 유산균 코팅 기술인 듀얼코팅을 지속적으로 고도화하고 있다”고 밝혔다.
