전세계 기후변화 연구자 부산 모인다

전 세계 기상‧해양‧빙권 분야를 연구자들이 부산에 모인다.

2025 IUGG 기상-해양-빙권 국제학술대회(이하 BACO-25)가 20일~25일 부산 벡스코에서 개막한다. 학회는 국제 측지학 및 지구물리학 연합(IUGG)이 주최했다. 한국기상학회‧한국해양학회‧대한지질학회로 구성된 BACO-25 조직위원회가 주관했다.

2022년 개최해야 하는데, 코로나19의 영향으로 열리지 못하다가 3년 만인 올해 열리게 됐다. 조직위원회에 따르면, 현재까지 46개국에서 1천500여 명 등이 참석 신청을 한 것으로 알려졌다. 

대회 기간에 기조 강연을 포함해 총 3개 분야의 68개 세션의 학술 발표와 기상‧해양‧빙권 산업 전시, 비즈니스 미팅, 필드트립 등이 운영될 예정이다.

기후와 환경 분야 석학의 기조강연이 눈에 띈다. 이회성 IPCC AR6 의장은 ‘모두를 위한 기후 행동’에 대해 강연할 예정이다. 이 의장은 인간 활동이 유발한 기후변화가 전 세계에 끼치는 영향과 기후 및 에너지 위기, 경제 불안에 직면한 현 상황을 진단하고, 기후 위기 해결을 제시할 예정이다.

또 Tong Zhu FE-MAIRS 과학운영위원회 위원장이 ‘대기오염과 기후변화의 건강 영향’을 발표한다. Tong Zhu 위원장은 산업화 전후 글로벌 대기오염과 기후변화를 분석하고, 중국의 대기질 개선 정책을 통한 대기오염 감소와 기대효과를 소개한다. 기후변화로 인한 질병 및 건강 문제와 화석연료 소비 감소를 위한 국제 과학 협력 계획도 제안할 예정이다.

이어 Ayako Abe-Ouchi 도쿄대 대기해양연구소 교수는 ‘지질 시대 과거와 미래 기후변화 하에서의 빙상 및 해빙의 역학’을 발표한다. 이와 함께 Roxy Mathew Koll 인도 열대기상연구소 박사가 ‘열대 기후 변화: 온난화 세계에서 인도-태평양 온난수역, MJO, 그리고 몬순’에 대해 설명할 예정이다.

이 밖에도 최근 관심이 높은 북극항로 관련 학술 발표도 진행될 것으로 예정돼 있어 눈길을 끈다. 아울러 추정은 홍콩시립대 에너지환경학부 조교수와 방송인 줄리안 퀸타르트 등의 토크와 환경 관련 영화제도 대회 기간에 운영될 예정이다.

조직위는 “이번 대회가 국내외 기상, 해양, 빙권 분야 연구 발전과 국제협력 강화, 기후위기 대응을 위한 대중소통 계기가 되길 기대한다”라고 밝혔다.
