대웅, 바이오시밀러 진출 선언…"신성장 동력삼을 것"

대웅제약이 바이오시밀러 전문가를 영입하는 등 관련 사업에 본격 뛰어든다.

회사는 바이오시밀러 사업을 총괄할 BS사업본부장으로 홍승서 박사를 선임했다고 22일 밝혔다. 회사는 항체의약품 바이오시밀러 사업을 위한 국내외 파트너십을 모색하고 있다. 앞으로 개발 품목을 확대해 유럽·미국 시장에 진출한다는 계획이다.

이번에 영입한 홍승서 신임 BS사업본부장은 2002년~2019년까지 셀트리온과 셀트리온헬스케어에서 바이오시밀러의 연구개발부 터글로벌 상용화 등 전주기를 이끌었다. 셀트리온 연구부문 사장, 셀트리온헬스케어 대표, 로피바이오 대표 등을 역임했다.

홍 본부장은 “대웅제약의 바이오시밀러 시장 도전은 의미 있다”라며 ”대웅제약의 세일즈 네트워크와 실행력을 바탕으로 환자에게 더 나은 치료 접근성을 제공하겠다“라고 밝혔다.

박성수 대표는 “바이오시밀러 시장에서도 자체 및 공동 개발로 차별화된 실행력을 보여줄 것”이라며 “단기 성과에 그치지 않고, 세계 시장에서 의미 있는 플레이어로 자리매김하겠다”라고 강조했다.

한편, 글로벌 시장조사기관 인사이트마켓리서치컨설팅 그룹에 따르면, 글로벌 바이오시밀러 시장 규모는 지난해 36조 원이었다. 오는 2033년 250조 원에 이를 것으로 전망된다.
