모더나, 코로나19 백신 국가예방접종사업 참여

모더나코리아 코로나19 백신이 25-26절기 국가예방접종사업(NIP)에 포함돼 고위험군을 대상으로 활용할 수 있게 됐다.

질병관리청은 이번 절기 조달 구매 입찰에서 모더나의 코로나19 백신 2백1만9천 도즈를 확보했다. 모더나 백신은 65세 이상 고령층에서 젊은 층과 동등한 수준의 면역원성이 확인됐다. 회사는 과거 접종 이력과 상관없이 모더나 백신을 접종하면 면역 효과와 안전성을 확인했다고 밝혔다.

국내에서도 모더나 코로나19 백신은 팬데믹 초기부터 지금까지 약 2천918만 도즈가 접종됐다. 이 과정에서 모더나 측은 효과와 안전성에 대한 실제 접종 데이터를 축적해 왔다고 밝혔다. 관련해 질병청은 모더나 백신이 팬데믹 초기 국내에서 사용된 백신 중 돌파 감염률이 가장 낮은 백신이라고 밝힌 바 있다.

모더나는 지난 2021년부터 삼성바이오로직스와의 함께 국내에서 유일하게 mRNA 코로나19 백신을 생산해 오고 있다. 또 질병청 산하 국립감염병연구소와의 중증열성혈소판감소증후군(SFTS) 백신 후보 물질 공동 연구, 카이스트와 연세대 K-NIBRT와의 mRNA 연구 인재 양성 협력 등도 실시 중이다.

김상표 대표는 “코로나19 바이러스로부터 고위험군을 보호하기 위해 이어온 모더나의 노력이 올해 국가예방접종사업을 통해 계속될 수 있게 됐다”라며 “코로나19는 특히 65세 이상 고령층에 중증화율이 높은 감염질환으로 정부 예방접종 계획과 발맞춰 더 많은 고위험군을 보호하겠다”라고 밝혔다.
